How To Create The Perfect Home Office
How To Create The Perfect Home Office
So many of us are working from home or remotely these days, which can be so beneficial, especially if you are juggling family life with work like me and so many other Mamas I know! However to keep productivity levels high and creativity flowing, I think it's so important to work in a dedicated space that is functional, beautiful and inspirational, rather than fall into the trap of working from your bedroom or couch. So, I thought I would share my top tips on how to create the perfect home office & working environment with you!
1. Natural light is everything
Select a room or area in your home that receives plenty of natural light. It helps to stimulate productivity, improves focus, maintains healthy levels of vitamin D, reduces eye strain and is key to overall physical and psychological wellbeing. Plus a well lit space just looks better!
2. Limit distractions & noise
This can be a tricky one if you're working in a house full of kids! But where possible if you are able to select an area in your home that is away from the main buzz of the living room or play areas, your concentration & creativity levels will improve drastically if there are less interruptions and distractions.
3. Create a space that inspires you
This one is so important! If you love your home office you will enjoy spending more time in it and look forward to working a lot more. Start by selecting colours that boost your productivity. This can elicit different results for different people so do what works best for you, but generally speaking light and natural tones are best. Once you have your colour scheme locked in, I find that beautiful wall art, ornaments and plants really help to personalise a space and motivate me to create. To browse my wall art, click here.
4. Comfort is key
You will be spending a lot of time in this area, so selecting ergonomic furniture is really important for your overall health & wellbeing, as well as your focus. A decent desk chair is such a good investment!
5. Tidy desk, tidy mind
Easier said than done, but if you have smart storage you will be able to maintain a clean and tidy working area. Think cute pen pots, baskets, trinket dishes, pin boards, folders and drawers galore. I recommend doing a little tidy up each evening once you've finished work, so that in the morning your office is ready for you to start your working day.
6. Purpose built for your needs
I love my studio, it's like a little retreat for me to shut away the rest of the world and dedicate myself to my art and creativity. It's also purpose built for me, which allows me easy access to tools & inspo whenever I need it. For me, this looks like an inspiration board in front of me and my pens, pencils, brushes & sketch pads at my fingertips. Have a think about what you need to easily carry out your work & make life easier for yourself by having it all in arms reach.
