A Closer Look Into "Untouched Lands"
A Closer Look Into "Untouched Lands"
I am often asked about the process behind creating my artwork collections & what inspires them, so I thought I would share a little more of what went on behind the scenes of my latest collection - Untouched Lands.
The Inspiration
In my latest collection, Untouched Lands, I have depicted landscapes that are vibrant and full of natural life. I always aim to create a place that the viewer can get lost in, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
I live on the east coast of Australia. While it is beautiful, we live in one of the largest cities in our country. It is always busy! I constantly find myself dreaming of escaping, of living in lands that are untouched… where nature thrives and human impact is minimal. Lands with lots of space, colourful wildlife, miles of untouched sand and crystal clear water. Lands where human destruction doesn’t exist, where the evergreens grow as far as the eye can see. Where there is stillness and peace.
Untouched Lands captures the essence of adventure, depicting being amongst the raw beauty of an unsurpassed place... with some unexpected but very welcomed visitors joining along the way.
It's all in the details... from lush greens to the subdued tones of earthy browns against a dusk pink sky... this new collection captures the essence of untouched landscapes inviting the viewer to get lost in serenity of nature.
Since I was little I have always loved colour and pattern. I would often spend hours drawing getting lost in the world that I had created on the page in front of me. Being able to escape into these little pieces of paradise brings me so much joy. My hope is that it transports you, as the viewer, as well.
The Creative Process
The process of creating a collection is a journey. From inception to realisation, there is a lot of work behind the scenes! Coming from a background in design I always start my collections with a mood board. I collect lots of imagery that inspire my subject and colour palette. From there I create sketches of each artwork on my iPad focusing on scale, composition and colour. Once I feel like they’re all working together I pencil outline the works on canvas.
All of the artworks in untouched lands are painted using Acrylic on Italian cotton canvas.
