Tips For Pairing Artwork

Sometimes two is just better than one. Maybe you have a large space to fill, you want to create more of an impact, or you just can't pick one favourite. Selecting the perfect pair can be tricky as you want the artworks to compliment each other and not clash. Once you've selected your pieces you then have to decide how to frame them and where to hang them. There's a bit to consider! Which is why I'm often asked by customers for my recommendations, so here are my top tips for pairing artwork and a few of my favourite pairs.

When creating a collection of artwork I typically use the same colour palette and theme throughout. This means if you select two pieces from the same collection, the colours and tones will be cohesive from one piece to the next, ensuring that your pair is perfectly matched and does not clash. I also recommend selecting a collection that has complimentary hues to the room that you are decorating. If the room is very neutral, then you can pick whichever collection you like.

Side by side is the most popular way to position a pair of art prints, but it all depends on the size of your space. If your space is particularly narrow, you might want to consider hanging your prints one on top of the other. If you are wanting something a little more eclectic, you could also consider nestling a pair in amongst a gallery wall of prints. Another idea I love to create a little more depth is leaning a pair of overlapping prints against a wall from a shelf or ledge.
